YOUNG POSITIVIST WRITES. COVID-19 AND GHANA’S ELECTION 2020. At the beginning of 2020, things seemed promising. Many people had magnificent goals in mind to actualize. To them,  the year 2020 was the beginning of a new decade and so they had high hopes for it. But little did the world know that a disease which originated from a small geographical area would escalate to this level. Ghana has not been spared by this deadly invisible foe as the country moves towards its 8th electoral process under the fourth republic. In this piece, I discuss the deadly novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and election 2020 and the situation’s impact on the Ghanaian voter.  The world has not known much peace since the outbreak of this virus, and it has given world leaders restless nights and deep incubus. As you may be aware, this virus which first broke out in Wuhan, a province in China has now become a pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO) led by its Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreye...

YOUNG POSITIVIST WRITES. ETHNICITY AS A WEAPON OF DESTRUCTION IN AFRICA.  Africa is a very beautiful continent endowed with rich resources both human and material wise. It is the second-largest continent in the world and the second-most populous continent, after Asia. Almost every natural resource that one can think of is existent on this very continent at the expense of other continents not having up to one-third of the resources that Africa has. The question that rolls in the minds of right-thinking members of society is that why is it that after all these numerous natural resources, Africa is considered as the poorest continent in the world? What could be the prime issue impoverishing the continent and leaving it in a long dark period? The problems could be many but I have chosen to talk about ethnicity, a delicate subject used as a weapon of destruction in Africa and how it has left the continent in its dark shade leading to the loss of millions of African lives and properties ...

YOUNG POSITIVIST WRITES. “THESE ARE NOT ORDINARY TIMES.” The past few weeks have not been an easy journey for mankind, as the world is hit by an unseen ‘devil’. The Coronavirus which began as an endemic in Wuhan, a province of China has now become a major problem for the world. I have therefore decided to write on this issue which has become an invincible force for humankind to battle with. I have chosen this title from a statement made by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo that “these are not ordinary times”.  Why is this very moment of human life not an ordinary period for Ghana and the rest of the world? This article will explore the reasons. Every individual living on this planet might have heard, read or listened to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus, which has hit the world and brought out a lot of unplanned decisions and changes. The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan a province in China and later spread to the whole country. Before the disease became...

YOUNG POSITIVIST WRITES. SECOND TERM IN GHANAIAN POLITICS. Democracy seems to have gained roots in Ghanaian society as measures are put in place to ensure there are peaceful elections. On 7 December 2020, Ghanaian electorates will march to the polls to elect Members of Parliament (MPs) and a president who will steer the affairs of the country for the next four years. This will be the eighth election since our return to constitutional rule in 1992. I have therefore decided to write about an important issue in Ghana's democracy under the Fourth Republic, dubbed "The Second Term in Ghanaian Politics" and how relevant it is to the incumbent government. Article 66, clause 2 of the 1992 constitution states, "A person shall not be elected to hold office as president of Ghana for more than two terms." This constitutional provision forces presidents, who have served two terms successfully, to vacate their position at the end of their tenure. In the Ghanaian context...

YOUNG POSITIVIST WRITES. 2020, ANOTHER POLITICAL YEAR . I must begin this piece with an apology to all my cherished readers for not being able to write in a while especially, those who have asked me when my next write-up is due. In view of that, I have decided to dedicate this article to you all. For the record, it has been two years since I started writing and I couldn’t have made it without your continuous support and encouragement. I promise to reach a higher level especially this year being an election year. For the past few months, a lot of issues have transpired in the country, some pleasant, and others distasteful and for some reasons I chose to be mute. Now back to the main issue of discussion as I have decided to write on an issue which is paramount to every Ghanaian because it has become part of our tradition of electing people to fulfill national responsibilities. I have therefore chosen to write about 2020, being a political year and the implication, it may have on...

YOUNG POSITIVIST WRITES. HOW DEMOCRACY COLLAPSED Ghana. There is an old testament scripture which I would begin with this piece; Job 38:7; “When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”. I have chosen this scriptural reference to write on an issue which is critical to this country. Ghana has been touted as “the beckon of democracy in Africa” because of its relatively stable political stability under its fourth republic. Is there any developmental correlation between what has been advertised to the outside world and the reality in the country? "When the cry for the return to democracy came about, many people shouted for joy”. Has the return to democracy brought any joy, or has it brought about its downfall? For this purpose, I have chosen to write on how democracy under the fourth republican constitution has collapsed and retarded Ghana’s growth. Ghana is one of the most endowed countries in Sub Saharan Africa with human and natural resourc...

YOUNG POSITIVIST WRITES THE DEPLORABLE STATE OF SANITATION IN ACCRA. “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” is the first statement that comes to mind immediately the topic of sanitation is discussed. One can never talk about sanitation extensively without alluding to this powerful and catchy expression. Many may think that this adage emanates from the Bible but unfortunately, they are misguided because there is no scriptural reference to it. My focal goal is not to contend on its Biblical orientation but rather to trigger a conversation around a delicate issue of concern left unattended, the result we see on the streets of Accra- Ghana now. On this note, I want to bring to the notice of the general public the terrible and downgrading nature of sanitation in the nation’s capital and how it is being swallowed by filth and dirt; a pathetic scene. Whenever the issue of sanitation comes up it becomes a big problem for many people in Africa largely because of the loose system and insti...
