YOUNG POSITIVIST Writes.
IT WILL BE IDEAL TO DISSOLVE THE GFA NOW.
Ghanaians on 6th June, 2018 gathered at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) to view a documentary by ace controversial journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas tagged ‘number 12’. This obviously led to the video becoming popular and everyone wanting to have a view of it. Meanwhile, the great turnout can be attributed to the invitation by government demanding GFA president Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi to appear before the Criminal Investigative Department of the Ghana Police service  for further investigation. The faithful day arrived and the auditorium was filled to capacity even before the scheduled time. Human traffic was common at the frontage of AICC even though there was a down-pour during the hours of the première. In this write-up, I address the question why it will be ideal for the government to dissolve the Ghana Football Association.
Member of Parliament for Asin Central Honorable Kennedy Agyapong’s personality cannot be left out when the conversation concerning the expose is tabled for discussion. Mr. Agyapong categorically indicated that he opposes the modes and methods carried out by the ace Investigative journalist. He made this assertion clearer on several media platforms including Adom TV where he defended his claims. However, some Ghanaians are still unware why the MP was so much engrossed in the video as well as the personality of Anas Aremyaw Anas.
Some viewers who took tunes to watch the documentary at the AICC here in Accra wept. Their cause of wailing was simple and straightforward. The state of corruption in our football system. football administrators, match commissioners, referees and all those who matter in the game of football robbed them of their tears.
For the football lovers, the state of soccer in Ghana and the current revelation was not shock driven because they foresaw this happening. Lately, Ghanaian teams perform abysmal on the international front with the exception of two local teams namely Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak. Readers may recall that during the late 1990s and somewhere in the early part of 2000 these two teams took over Africa. We were fortunate to have them fight for the final position slot of the confederation cup in 2004.After the 90 minutes drill, my favorite; Heart of Oak won that very tournament. However, events seem different now as compared to the past decades.
What we see currently in our football is not a replicate of the fierce spirit we’ve always known. These two teams now underperformed. What is the cause? Is it because matches are arranged and sold?
Surprisingly, the Ghana Première league has no sponsor for the past five years. Why this? Every investor fears to invest obviously because no rational investor is ready to dump his money into the bin. It is worthy to know that some football administrators are corrupt thus trading matches for money.
The least said about the Black Stars of Ghana the better. They perform awfully in international level and what is the cause?  I can’t fathom why they have failed to secure any trophy for the country in this past three decades. The Brazil experience was horrible with a great sum of money going down the drain.
The video premiering, disclosed vividly that many football officials and administrators are  corrupt and lovers of money and gifts.
The fate of Ghana football as at now is unfavorable thus the government should intervene. Failure to do so means more evil befall the football fraternity. I weep whenever I think about the stance of corruption in the country now. Some people fear that if the government intervenes, we shall receive the wrath of FIFA. However, I oppose this intuition. It is better for government to intervene than we looking to get situation off hand.
The occurrence of this event doesn’t suggest it will be the first time that a government has intervened in football matters. We can talk about the likes of Benin, Cameroon, and Nigeria. Nigeria although received a slap from FIFA came back strong and fit and is doing well at the moment. They won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nation tournament. Their performance increased on the international front as well and is featuring in Russia 2018. Similar development can be advanced in Ghana if the government interfere in our football issues at this very moment.
In concluding, the dissolving of the GFA is for the best interest of the country. My recommendation is that the GFA president terms of office should be specified. More so, the vice president should not be appointed by the GFA president. This will prevent the issue of disrespect owing to absolute power. I am cock sure that the adherence to these suggestions will go a long way assist the football industry. We need to protect and redeem the image of football in the country. The call for the dissolution of the GFA is a right call. It is my wish the football business in the country will rise to a higher level. Ghana must work again. Ghana will work again.
